The Callendar extension.

The first train running direct from Toronto to Winnipeg via the Callendar extension of the Northern & North-Western Railway, left the City Hall station at 9 o'clock on Saturday night [November 20, 1886]. The train was drawn by engine No. 68, and was made up of three passenger coaches, including a sleeper and a baggage car. The train staff consisted of Conductor John Wallace, Driver Thomas Mulvihill, Baggageman J. Parent, and Brakeman Robert Thompson. There were quite a number of passengers on board. The second train over the new line left Brock-street 2 o'clock yesterday morning under charge of Conductor McGill. It consisted of two passenger coaches and a baggage car. Both freight and passenger busiiness between Callendar and Gravenhurst are reported to be very large.
