St. Clair subway now authorized.
May hopes work will commence at early date.
An order authorizing the construction of a subway under the Canadian National Railways tracks at St. Clair Avenue was received yesterday by City Solicitor C. M. Colquhoun, and it is expected that a similar order will be made shortly with respect to the C.P.R. tracks just west of the C.N.R. tracks.
The order directs the Bell Telephone Company, the Hydro and the Consumers' Gas Company to make the necessary changes in services, and announces that the division of costs will be fixed later.
Mayor Stewart expressed the hope that the work would commence at an early date.
