Schomberg and Aurora Railway

The last spike of the Schomberg and Aurora Steam Railway was driven last Friday amid rejoicings of man people in the northern part of King. The new line runs from the village of Schomberg to Curtis' corners on Yonge St., just above Bond Lake, where it joins the Metropolitan electric railway. Heretofore the business of Schomberg, Lloydtown and other places was done principally through Hamilton, the easiest way to reach Toronto being by stage to Aurora, thence by Grand Trunk, the trip occupying about 5 hours. By the new line passengers can reach the centre of the city in 1 1/2 hours, and Toronto will therefore receive much trade that formerly went to Hamilton. Friday was a gala day in Schomberg. Speeches were made by Mr. Norman, warden of the county; J. W. Moyes, Manager of the Metropolitan Railway and J. McDougall, County Engineer. There was a half holiday in the Public School, and during the afternoon Mr. Moyes took the children for a ride in flat cars.
