Aurora, June 12.—(Special.)—The work of construction on the subway at the Grand Trunk crossing south of this town has been discontinued. It is understood the contractor has withdrawn from the task.

The situation resulting is one which should receive immediate and energetic action on the part of the department. The detour is far from being easy of passage, being almost impossible for heavily loaded trucks. The new subway is only partially excavated, and the whole place is in confusion. Quicksand and flowing springs make it almost impossible to accomplish the construction, and experienced road makers still predict the only solution is an overhead bridge.

The matter will come before the Board of Trade of Aurora at its next meeting.
