Crossings danger may be removed.
Board of Railway Commissioners to consider west end problem.
Will hold sitting here.
From the City Hall and from the Ward Six Transportation Committee the Dominion Railway Board has been pressed to take action on the matter of getting the steam railways to do something toward removing the dangerous level crossings which exist in the northwestern part of the city. Ald. Donald C. MacGregor, President of the Ward Six Transportation Committee, wrote to F. B. Carvell, Chairman of the Dominion Railway Board, stressing the need of quick action on this matter. Last night be received a telegram from Mr. Carvell stating that the Board of Railway Commissioners would hold a sitting in the City Hall here on Wednesday, February 14, for the purpose of dealing with this matter.
Agitation bears fruit.
City Solicitor Johnson made formal application to the Railway Board before Christmas for an order directing the Engineering Departments of the Canadian Pacific Railway and the Government lines to confer with the engineers of the city for the purpose of agreeing on plans for the proposed grade separation. Failing this, the city asked that the board issue an order compelling the railways to go ahead on the plans prepared by the city.
The level crossing objected to are Bloor street west, Royce and Wallace Avenues, St. Clair avenue west, and other streets in Wards Six and Seven.
