Accident on the Northern Railroad.—We noticed in our last, that the laying of the rail had commenced on the southerly section of this road, and now we have to record the first and a most lamentable accident which has happened on the rails. It appears that a part went out on Saturday Evening [July 24], to have a ride on one of the lumber cars placed upon the track, loaded with iron rails, when from some cause Mr. Horwood of the North American Hotel, who was one of the part, was thrown down, the fore wheel passing over one part of his arm, and the hind wheel passing over another part of it, causing a severe compound fracture, and rendering amputation necessary. The operation was soon after performed, but the sufferer we are told lies very ill.
