Oxford County Council—January Session.

First Day.

County Council Chambers,
Woodstock, 27th January, 1874.

 ..  The following communications were then read:

1. An injunction from the Court of Chancery restraining the Council from signing or issuing any debentures under the authority of the By-law to grant a bonus to the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway by the Township of North Norwich and the Town of Woodstock until after the 10th day of February next.  .. 

4. The County Clerk read a statement showing the number of votes polled on the By-laws to grant a bonus to aid in the construction of the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway by the Township of North Norwich and the Town of Woodstock and the Township of East Zorra and the Town of Woodstock on the 30th day of December, 1873.  .. 

Second Day.

County Council Chambers,
Woodstock, 28th January, 1874.

 ..  Moved by Mr. Bird, seconded by Mr. Schell, That the By-law to aid and assist the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway by giving the sum of $50,000 in aird thereof be now read third time and passed.

Moved in amendment by Mr. Walker, seconded by Mr. McCorquodale, That the third reading of the By-law granting money to the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway be laid over till the meeting of this Council on Friday next.

The amendment on being put was carried.  .. 

Third Day.

County Council Chambers,
Woodstock, 30th January, 1874.

 ..  The resolution for the third reading of the By-law to grant a bonus of $50,000 to the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railway, laid over from the 28th inst., was brought up an read.

The legal opinion of the County Solicitor is to whether it is competent for the Council to refuse to read said By-law a third time was read.

A long [illegible] granted [illegible] and the [illegible] of the [illegible] afterward the motion to read the By-law a third time was put and lost.

The yeas and nays were called for, when the following gentlemen voted yes, viz: Messrs. T. Brown, Cook, Bird, Forbes, Jarvis, Kennedy, Matheson, Mums, Paris, SChell, Southwick, and Wilcox—12. There voted nay, Messrs. Abrahams, A.H. Brown, Burgess, Brady, Cowing, Casswell, Donaldson, Falconer, Henderson, Lawson, McCorquodale, Peers, Robinson, and Walker—14.  .. 

Fourth Day.

County Council Chambers,
Woodstock, 31th January, 1874.

 ..  Moved by Mr. Bird, seconded by Mr. Schell, That the 32nd standing rule of this Council be suspended for the purpose of reconsidering the vote taken yesterday on the proposal to read a third time the By-law to grant a bonus of $50,000 to the Port Dover and Lake Huron Railroad.

On the resolution being put it was negatived.  ..
