Narrow escape.
A load of wood stuck on the Water St. crossing on Tuesday just as a freight train from the south was coming along. The driver shouted and whipped the horses but they could not budge it. Mr. Oliver Broughton came along and seeing the situation he assisted the driver to jerk out the hind stakes thus allowing part of the load to fall off. The horses then managed to pull the sleigh over the track just in the nick of time.
