The cars are coming.
The grade of the Metropolitan from Yonge St. to Newmarket was finished on Tuesday and on Wednesday the work of laying the ties and rails was resumed. It is expected that the rails will be laid to Newmarket by Saturday night. Another week will then do the wiring and it is expected that the first car will reach here about the close of next week.
The machinery at the Bond's Lake power house is said to be nearly ready for use—in fact part of it is already in running order and a party of over 100 people were conveyed from Toronto last Saturday and enjoyed a picnic at the lake. The Manager, Mr. Moyes, expects the road to be in operation to Newmarket by the first of August, and the next Monday after he expects the men to commence work on Main St. to extend the line to Huron Street.
The Metropolitan Railway conveyed a large party of excursionists from the Botsford establishment, Queen St., Toronto, to Bond's Lake on Wednesday and the Eglinton Methodist Sunday School to the same place yesterday.
