A close call.

There came very nearly being a railroad accident here last Saturday morning—so near that several people held their breath. The ten o'clock passenger train was coming in from the south and two farmers were driving down Timothy Street with light wagons, coming to market. The noise of machinery in the Specialty Works attracted their attention, but no sound was heard of the train coming in. Mr. W. F. Blanchard was driving the front rig and he was upon the crossing before he noticed the engine only a few yards away. The engine just missed his hind wheel and Mr. Jas. Naught, who was following him closely, managed to check and turn his horse as the engine passed between the two rigs.

We have previously called the attention of the Railway Co. to this crossing. It is the most dangerous in Town—worse than Huron St. and that is bad enough. All engineers going north should be instructed to whistle at Water Street or the Railway Co. will have an action for damages to settle some of these days.
