.. The first girder of the new railway bridge at the Narrows was put in position last week. The piece of steel weighed thirty-five tons. The work is being pushed forward with all possible despatch now, as the channel is blocked by the temporary structure on which the trains are crossing, and navigation will probably open in a few days. A party of eighteen men are at work on the job. The new bridge is to be heavy enough to carry the heavy mogul engines which it is proposed to adopt on this division—Advance.
