Hijackers raid CNR freight train at Washago stop

Orillia, March 8.—Hijackers pulled off an audacious raid today when they forced entry into a freight train at Washago, 12 miles north of here, while it was halted momentarily on a siding.

Breaking the seal on a box car door, the hijackers climbed in and dumped a quantity of articles onto the track. It is believed they made off with goods, although the exact extent of the loss will not be known until CNR officials are able to check [the] contents of the car.

The articles beside the roadbed where noticed by the crew, who, apparently, had missed the raiders altogether. An investigation revealed the broken seal, and the incident was reported to police.

Provincial Constable Fred Macdonald is investigating.
