Special visitors help put plans for train station on the right track

Pieces continue to fall into place for creating a Sioux Lookout landmark.

Last week members of the Sioux Lookout Economic Development Commission (EDC), its train station sub-committee, as well as members of the Sioux Lookout Enhancement Committee and representatives of the town of Sioux Lookout met with three representatives from Ontario Heritage Trust about the train station in Sioux Lookout.

After a walk around the building, the gathering moved to the municipal office for a question and answer session with the three heritage trust representatives, chiefly Ontario Heritage Trust Easements Program Coordinator Kiki Aravopoulos.

EDC Chair Stewart Laird stated, What we knew before, and she confirmed, is their concern is the outside, nothing to do with the inside.

As the train station is designated as a heritage building, any changes to its exterior have to go through Ontario Heritage Trust for approval.

Laird added, They sound very flexible, encouraging.

Any changes to the land around the station must also be approved, however Laird said
