C.N.R. will not abandon Beaverton-Washago line
Mr. D. C. McKinnon, clerk of the township of Rama, has received the following copy of a letter from Mr. S. J. Hungerford, Vice-President of the Canadian National Railways, to Mr. R. H. Halbert, M.P.:
With reference to your letter of the 25th inst., to Major G. A. Bell, Deputy Minister, Department of the Railways and Canals, with regard to the suggested abandonment of the former Canadian Northern line between Beaverton and WashagoAssume the plan would be to connect Bala Subdivision to the Midland Subdivision from Beaverton and Atherley and proceed to via the Newmarket Subdivision to Washago., which has been referred to me, recent studies have been made in connection with the co-ordination of facilities and railway lines of the former Grand Trunk and Canadian Northern Railways between Beaverton and Washago, one proposition being the abandonment of the former Canadian Northern line between these points. From these studies it appears that it would not be in the interests of the railways or public to abandon this portion of the line, and such action will not be taken, although certain coordination work may be undertaken near Beaverton, which will not, of course, affect the railway at Udney and Rathburn.
