Allandale budget
...
On Tuesday, July 7th, the C.N.R. tried out an oil electric car on the Hamilton branch in an effort to cut down operating expenses. It was found that if this car can handle the business on this line a great saving will be made, not only in fuel, but will require two less of a crew. A car of this type was tried some years ago, but at that time travel was too heavy to make the time required, as it was necessary to haul an extra coach. At the present time only an extra mail and baggage combination is necessary.
