Toronto grade crossing elimination.—The plans for the elimination of the grade crossing on the G.T.R. from Bathurst St., Toronto, to the Humber River, are being prepared in the Chief Engineer's office at Montréal. The first portion of the work to be undertaken will be the section from Bathurst St. to Sunnyside, upon which the tracks are to be depressed, and the streets carried over the tracks by bridges. On the other section, from Sunnyside to the Humber River, there will be an embankment, raising the tracks, the roads being carried underneath. This will provide a practically level track from the Humber into the city. The Board of Railway Commissioners' order provided for the construction of a two-track line, and proportioned the cost of the bridges and other work between the company and the municipalities on that basis, but the G.T.R. has decided to construct the works so as to provide for the laying of four tracks, meeting the extra cost itself. It is said that the work, which will be carried out by the G.T.R. Construction Department, will be started about May 1, and will be completed within two years.
