February 1924, No. 312 Canadian Railway and Marine World (Toronto) Page 60, col. 1

Territorial changes, Central Region, Canadian National Railways.

C. C. Bowker, General Manager, Central Region, C.N.Rys., issued the following circular, Jan. 1, approved by S. J. Hungerford, Vice President: "Effective Jan. 6, with the opening for operation of the Longlac cutoff, the territory from Longlac to Nakina, including Nakina yard, and from Nakina to Superior Jct., will become a part of the Hornepayne Division, Northern Ontario District, under the jurisdiction of Superintendent J. J. Napier. Subdivision changes consequent upon the above are as follows:—The subdivision from Hornepayne to Nakina will be known as the Caramat Subdivision. The subdivision from Longlac to Jellicoe will be known as the Kinghorn Subdivision. The name of the Nipigon Division will be changed to the Hornepayne Division, and the name of Nipissing Division will be changed to the Capreol Division."

In addition to placing in the Northern Ontario District the line from Longlac to Nakina, 29.4 miles, there has been taken from the Québec District, and placed in the Northern Ontario District, the National Transcontinental line between Nakina and Superior Jct. The N.T.R. line between Nakina and Armstroing, 112.3 miles, was formerly a part of the Kowkash Subdivision, Cochrane Division, Québec District and the line from Armstrong to Superior Jct., 137.7 miles, was formelry the Bucke Subdivision, Hornepayne Division, Northern Ontario District, under the jurisdiction of J. J. Napier, Superintendent, Hornepayne. The Québec District's Cochrane Division has lost 245 miles of line, from Nakina to Superior Jct., and its western terminus is now at Nakina instead of Superior Jct. The 18.9 miles between Grant and Nakina, formerly the east end of the Kowkash Subdivision, Cochrane Division, Québec District, has been added to the Pagwa Subdivision, Cochrane Division, Québec District, making that subdivision extend from Hearst to Nakina, 144 miles, instead of only from Hearst to Grant, 125.1 miles, as heretofore. The change in the name of the Northern Ontario Distrcit's Nipissing Division to Capreol Division has involved no change or territory. G. N. Goad is its superintendent at Capreol.

The former Nipigon Division, Northern Ontario District, in addition to having its name changed to Hornepayne Division, has been increased by 274.4 miles (29.4 miles Longlac to Nakina, and 235 miles Nakina to Superior Jct.), as stated above, and now consists of Oba Subdivision, from Foleyet to Hornepayne, 148.1 miles; Caramat Subdivision, Hornepayne to Nakina, 130.1 miles; Kowkash Subdivision, Nakina to Armstrong, 112.3 miles; Bucke Subdivision, Armstrong to Superior Jct., 132.7 miles; Kinghorn Subdivision, from Longlac to Jellicoe, 49.8 miles; Dorion Subdivision, Jellicoe to Port Arthur, 147.9 miles; total 720.9 miles. Prior to the change in name the Nipigon Division consisted of: Oba Subdivision, from Foleyet to Hornepayne, 148.1 miles; Longlac Subdivision, from Hornepayne to Jellicoe, 150.5 miles; and Dorion Subdivision, from Jellicoe to Port Arthur, 147.9 miles; total, 446.5 miles. The superintendent of the new Hornepayne Division is J. J. Napier, Hornepayne, Ont.

The Caramat Subdivision of the new Hornepayne Division has been formed by adding the 29.4 miles of the Longlac Nakina cutoff to the 100.7 miles between Hornepayne and Longlac, making the Caramat Subdivision, Hornepayne to Nakina, 130.1 miles. The Kinghorn Subdivision, Longlac to Jellicoe, 49.8 miles, is what was left of the former Longlac Subdivision, Nipigon Division, when the portion of it from Hornepayne to Longlac was taken to join with the Longlac cutoff in forming the new Caramat Subdivision.
