Canadian National Railways construction, betterments, etc.

...

Newmarket Subdivision subway.—Canadian National Rys. gave a contract on June 14 to Johnson Bros., Toronto, for construction of a subway adjacent to Concord station, at mile 14.23 from Toronto, Newmarket Subdivision, Allandale Division, Northern Ontario District. The object is to remove a level crossing, where the C.N.R. single track line is crossed by the King's Highway No. 7, upon which vehicular traffic is very heavy. The highway will be carried under the track in a subway 42 ft. long from face to face of abutment back walls, and will be flanked on each side by 4-ft. sidewalks. The abutments will be of concrete construction, and the deck will be of reinforced concrete, the pre-moulded slab type of construction to be employed. The subway will be very similar to one built in Weston, Ont., recently, carrying the C.N.R. line over a county road at the north side of that place.
