Cut passenger train service Oct. 26 Truck delivery for mail and express

Two passenger trains will be taken off the C.N.R. Toronto-Peterborough route. Commencing October 26th, No. 92 northbound from Toronto and No. 95 southbound from Peterborough will cease operations. No. 92 had previously arrived in Stouffville at 10.10 a.m. and No. 95 arrived at 7.38 p.m. Both trains will make their final turns on Saturday, Oct. 25. Lack of passenger traffic has been blamed for the cancellations.

Following the withdrawal of the two trains, express deliveries will be made direct from Toronto to the local station. Mail deliveries will also be made by truck from Toronto to the Stouffville post office. Morning mail will arrive here at 2.30 a.m.

Local Postmaster, Mr. Jack Sanders informs the Tribune that mail delivery to Stouffville by truck would be a decided improvement over train deliveries. He noted that the morning passenger train was often late, thus the mail could not be completely sorted until noon hour.

Mr. Burton Corbett, C.N.R. Station Agent said that the withdrawal of two trains would not effect his work to any great extent. Express parcels will still be handled at the station. The southbound morning passenger train and the northbound night train will be continued The old Blackwater to Midland train will be withdrawn on Oct. 25.
