Central Region.—The following betterments were done during 1925: Double tracking, Mount Royal to Lazard, Que. Between tunnel terminal station, Montréal, and Mount Royal is double track, electric line. The new work consisted of extending the second track from Mount Royal to Lazard, 3.33 miles, and electrifying it. The grading was light. Bridges were extended for second track as follows: mile 6.4, Raimbuault Creek, one 45 ft. t.p.g. span with concrete ballast floor; mile 72., St. Laurent Road, one 45 ft. t.p.g. span with concrete ballast floor. Bloor Street subways, Northwest Toronto.—This work involved the construction of 2 subways on Bloor Street, one under the Canadian Pacific and C.N.R Bramtpon Subdivision tracks, which parallel each other, and the other under C.N.R. tracks, Newmarket Subdivision. By agreement between the two railways, the Canadian Pacific constructed the superstructure of the subway under both railways where the lines parallel each other. The other subway was constructed by C.N.R. forces. The C.N.R. portion of the subway on the Brampton Subdivision is of concrete and steel, with ballasted deck, and carries 2 tracks over Bloor St., 66 ft. wide. On the Newmarket Subdivision, the subway carries 2 tracks over Bloor St., 66 wide ft. wide, and is of concrete and steel with ballasted deck.

Royce Avenue subways, Northwest Toronto.—This work, along with Bloor St. subways referred to above, completes a scheme of grade separation at Northwest Toronto. The conditions at Royce Ave. were similar to those at Bloor St., two subways being necessary, one of which carries the Canadian Pacific and C.N.R. Brampton Subdivision tracks, and the other the C.N.R. Newmarket Subdivision. Construction of the subways was similar to the Bloor St. subways mentioned above.
