Radial railway abandonment recommended.—Toronto Transportation Commission wrote the Toronto city board of control on May 22, recommending abandonment of the radial railway northerly from Toronto to Sutton, on Lake Simcoe, 48.66 miles. This line, like the radial railway lines running east and west out of Toronto, was taken over from the Sir William Kackenzie interests some years ago; the lines running east and west have been incorporated in the T.T.C. city system, but the northerly one, referred to as the Metropolitan Division, and as the Lake Simcoe line, remains in the city's possession and it is operated by the T.T.C. as agent. Its total loss is in excess of $300,000 a year, including fixed charges; the total debt outstanding is $2,272,222. Gray Coach Lines, Ltd., the T.T.C. motor coach operating subsidiary, is operating a coach service auxiliary to the electric car service, between Toronto and Newmarket, 22 miles north of Toronto. The Commission's recommendation to the board of control was based on a report prepared by R. M. Feustel, of Chicago, who investigated for the Commission.
