Collision on the trolley.

There was a bad smashup on the Metropolitan Railway on Friday morning, just north of the Thornhill bridge and two motormen were badly hurt.

The accident was due to the air being thick with smoke. Motorman Frank Moody of Newmarket was running the repair car north and on reaching the top of the Thornhill hill he saw the 7.30 car from Newmarket approaching. He immediately reversed the car to keep out of the way of the passenger and at the foot of the hill came into collision with the old freight car, loaded with coal for the Bond Lake power house. Both motormen were on the lookout but neither saw the other in time to prevent the collision.

Mr. Moody had his left leg broken above the angle and his instep badly sprained. He was brought home and is doing nicely.

Motorman Cosgrove of Bond Lake had a finger smashed and was injured internally so badly that he could not be removed from the Thornhill hotel where was taken to at the time, but is getting better.

The cars were badly wrecked and the line blocked for about two hours.
