Friday, April 1, 1904 The Newmarket Era Page 3, col. 1

Opened at last.

Last Saturday morning the first car on the Metropolitan Railway from Toronto to reach Newmarket since the 27th of February, put in its appearance about 9 o'clock, after a continuance blockade of 28 days. Ever since the storm on the 29th of February 60 men were constantly employed with picks and shovels, digging out the road. In several places the tracks were filled as high as the tops of the cars. When the men reached Newmarket they proceeded to dig out the track along Main St., throwing the ice on the side of the street and greatly impeding ordinary street traffic. Inspector Anderson promptly ordered the men to either cart the ice away at once or stop further operations. They stopped!
