Canadian Northern Ry. construction, etc.

...

Canadian Northern Ry.A bill has been passed by the House of Commons, authorizing the company to construct the Railways mentioned on page 43 of our Jan. issue, and extending the time within which certain of the lines authorized by sec. 2, chap. 92, of the Statutes of 1908, may be built.

A train service was started over the Maryfield branch line, Feb. 7. Track has been laid for 80 miles, and grading has been completed for another 80 miles.

The bill for the ratification of the agreement between the company and the B.C. Government for the construction of a line from the Alberta-B.C. boundary to Vancouver is under discussion by the B.C. Legislature. It is said that R. G. Tatlow, who has resigned the office of Provisional Treasurer, will be appointed a Commissioner to take charge of the funds realized by the sale of the securities and pay them out to the C.N.R. for the construction of this line, and to the Kettle River Valley Ry., in respect of the construction of the line from Grand Forks to Vancouver. (Feb., pg. 169.)

W. Mackenzie, President, is credited with stating in Montréal recently that the company will build 500 or 600 miles of line west of Port Arthur this year, and will make a good start on the B.C. section.
