The Metropolitan Electric Railway Co. is asking the Legislature for power to reach the city water front over the Street Railway line; but Toronto people object unless they receive a share of the Company's earnings, or an equivalent in some shape, for the franchise. If our County Council had not been so easily manipulated this same Company would not have been granted privileges extending over a generation of years, without some return to the ratepayers for the use of the York Roads, and for the taxes paid as indemnity to Councillors while working for the Company making agreements.
