Coming this way.
The electric railway sure to reach Newmarket—it is only question of time: but just now it looks as if the Toronto line will get here before the Uxbridge line. In the Railway Committee of the local Legislature, the Metropolitan Railway Co.'s Bill was again considered last week. The clause giving them power to sell electric light in Toronto was withdrawn. Permission was given, however, to extend their line to all points on Lake Simcoe, and to use steam as motive power, with the consent of the municipalities. To our mind this consent should extend to original construction, so that proper agreement as to bridges, crossings, etc., could be made. The people have rights as well as the railway corporations and municipal councils should have something to say in regard to what shall be done. Nobody wants to see a hissing locomotive, followed by a cloud smoke, passing along the highway.
