More improvements.

The Wm. Cane & Sons Mfg. Co. has purchased the old tannery property at the north end and is having the premises all filled up and levelled. A new shed is being erected in the rear of the grounds 108 feet long by 20 feet wide for storing purposes.

A new 45 horse-power engine is now on order and is expected in a few days. It is to be used in driving the fan that forces the air through the immense dry kilns and also to generate the electric light—the present engine being too light for the purpose. This power is entirely independent of the 350 h.p. engine that drives the machinery in the factory. Notwithstanding the hard times this firm is continually increasing their capacity, which speaks well for the quality of goods they manufacture.
