National derailed near Atherley this morning.
Derailment of the driving wheels of the engine and the head trucks of an empty coach immediately behind, caused a four hour delay to the National train this (Thursday) morning, and as a consequence it did not arrive in Barrie until nine o'clock. The accident occurred one mile north of Atherley. No personal injuries were sustained by either the passengers or crew. The auxiliary was ordered out from Allandale, but before it arrived an engine from Orillia with the necessary equipment rerailed the engine and coach. The crew of the derailed train were not local men. A thorough investigation is being conducted by the company officials. The train was travelling at the usual rate of speed when the accident occurred. Train number 42, due in Barrie at 8.40, was delayed 2 hours. The above is an official report issue by the company.
