...

About 8 p.m. on January 20th the C.N.R. freight running from Parry Sound to AllandaleThe daily "fast freight" service began after completion of the connection between the G.T.R. and C.N.Rys. at Washago. was derailed a half mile south of Longford. Nineteen cars went off the track, 12 cars of wheat, 4 of oats, 2 of flour and 1 of pulp. An auxiliary was ordered from Hamilton and one from the north. They went to work at once and had the line cleared on the evening of Jan. 21. In the meantime, No. 46 and 47 were detoured by the Canadian National between Toronto and Washago, and the local passengers between Orillia were taken to Beaverton and transferred to No. 47. These passengers were brought as far as Orillia to catch No. 42. The passengers off No 44 were transferred to the C.N.R. for Toronto. The damage to the cars derailed was heavy, and considerable grain was spilled and the snow which was falling covered up the grain and made the work of salvage much more difficult. The accident is being investigated.
