Dear Sir:
Under Order No. 47431 dated September 26, 1931, the Railway Company was permitted to close the station at Palgrave as an agency, on the understanding that a caretaker would be appointed, and such action was taken.
While passenger trains Nos. 661 and 662 are still operating, Palgrave is a flag station for these trains and ticket sales are arranged through the conductors.
I enclose herewith statement of earnings at this station for the years 1955 and 1956, from which it will be noted that the total earnings for the year 1956 amounted to $120.00, whereas the caretaker is paid considerably in excess of that amount.
Also enclosed herewith is a copy of a latter received by our Superintendent at Allandale from the Clerk-Treasurer of the Municipality of the Township of Albion wherein objection is raised to the Railway's proposed action. However, due to the financial situation at this location it is considered by this Company that the retention of an agent at this point is economically warranted, and that there is no justification for our retention of the caretaker. It is therefore requested that the Board grant approval for the removal of the caretaker.
I am sending a copy of this letter to Mr. G. E. Holtby, Clerk-Treasurer of the Township of Albion, Mono Road, Ontario.
Yours truly,
H.J.G. Pye
