On the railways.
Important changes on the Grand Trunk—The Don and Parkdale stations—Improved baggage checking.
Some important changes have been made by the Grand Trunk Railway, in regard to the handling of freight in Toronto, the Don and Parkdale stations, having been placed under the charge of Mr. R. L. Nellis, the local freight agent at Toronto. Traffic will be received and handled as usual at these points, and every facility given for quick despatch of the freight of customers usually using the east or west end stations. This change means that instead of having practically three freight agents, there will be only one, Mr. Neelis, and all business will be transacted through him. Mr. C. H. Courtland, agent at the Don, goes to Port Dover as agent, where the company are making extensive preparations to handle coal and other traffic crossing Lake Erie by ferries. Mr. J. A. Telfer, agent at Parkdale, will take charge of the Grand Trunk ticket agent at the Union depot, Mr. W. Jarman remaining as assistant to Mr. Telfer.→
It is the intention of the Grand Trunk authorities also to improve the system of baggage checking at the Union Station, the present system having given rise to considerable complaint on the part of the travelling public. Mr. Thomas Newman, who has been connected with the baggage department for a long time, has been appointed chief baggage master, and Mr. James Duffy has been transferred to the parcel room. Mr. J. O'Higgins, who was formerly in the office of Mr. E. H. Fitzhugh, has been transferred to the office of Mr. D. Morice [sp?], the superintendent of terminals here.→
Another new appointment of the Grand Trunk is that of Mr. C. S. Cunningham, who is appointed trainmaster at Hamilton, in charge of 16, 17, 18 and 19 divisions [should be districts?]. Mr. Richard Forbes, sectionman south of Listowel, has been made section foreman, with headquarters at Burgessville.→
General Superintendent McGuigan of the Grand Trunk, arrived from Montréal in his private car yesterday, and with District Superintendent Fitzhugh of Toronto, went on a trip to Detroit. Mr. R. Armour, the newly appointed assistant engineer of the Grand Trunk, with headquarters at Montréal, was also in the city today. Mr Armour's district ends here, and he is making a tour of inspection.→
The line between Toronto and Allandale is now completely open to traffic but trains are running slowly between CraigvaleCraigvale become Stroud 1951-06-24. and Allandale, where the washouts occurred. On this account the 10.20 Muskoka express yesterday morning went out on the Midland and round by way of Blackwater.
