History

The Oakville Subdivision has as its origin the Toronto & Hamilton Railway (T&HR) opened for traffic on December 3, 1856. Prior to its completion, the T&HR was leased by the Great Western Railway (GWR) and amalgamated in 1855.

Movement between Canpa, Bayview, Hamilton_Junction, Hamilton West and Hamilton governed by rules covering movements of trains or engines in the same direction by signal indication. Rules 251 to 258.

Signals used to give indications are train order signals as diplayed at stations; dwarf signal at junction switch westward track, Beach Subdivision, Burlington; interlocking signals at Canpa, Bayview, Hamilton Junction, and Hamilton West and fixed signals between signal 388 and Hamilton.

All trains and engines must move between Hamilton and Hamilton Jct. at yard speed.

Movements against current of traffic between Hamilton and Hamilton Jct. may be made after receiving written authority of Yardmaster.

Conductor must ride on rear platform while back-up movementws being made between Hamilton, Bayview and Hamilton West.

Automatic Block Signals between Canpa and Hamilton show indications when running with current of traffic.

In automatic block signal territory light engines may use crossovers without flag protection after conforming with Rule 512 and obtaining "No Train Approaching" indication.

Under Rule 93 note reading "where automatic block signal system rules are in effect 'known to be clear' includes when track is known to clear by signal indication" is not applicable at Hamilton.

Dundas Subdivision trains use Oakville Subdivision main tracks between Bayview and Hamilton.

Nos. 9, 77, 17, 183, 83, 5 and 15 back Hamilton to Bayview

Nos. 14, 80, 6, 118, 18 and 16 will run to Bayview and back to Hamilton.
