Accident narrowly averted at gates.

Five people escaped with their lives on Friday night on the Essa St. crossing. They had come from Barrie in automobile No. 5868 and just as a shunter approached the crossing and as the gates were up, they put on the speed to get across. Just as they were in the middle of the track the gateman put the gate down in front of them, the train by this time being on the crossing. Had the gates no bent, as they did, the occupants would have met with serious injury. As it was, the auto was wedged in between the south gate and the freight train.
