Three carloads shipped to West
The citizens of Barrie and district responded nobly to the appeal for donations of fruit, vegetables, etc., for the drought areas in Western Canada. Three cars were packed at Allandale on Tuesday and Wednesday and it is possible a fourth car may be sent.
Private donations for money are still coming in, which will be used for purchasing supplies to be shipped to the West. The Barrie Kiwanis Club donated $100 towards the project. Fifty bags of potatoes were purchased at 50¢ a bag, and $75 was handed over to the Ministerial Committee to purchase vegetables, etc., from the soldiers' aid settlement near Allandale. This will not only help those in need in the West, but also the veterans, who could not find a market here for their produce.
A very fine spirit was shown by the farmers and market gardeners who gave their produce and spent their time gathering it and bringing it to the cars. Simcoe County never fails to respond to the call for assistance, when there is a need such as in the drought areas of Western Canada.
