Vegetables for west from Holland Marsh
Vegetable growers on the Holland Marsh on Tuesday received word from Ottawa confirming a Dominion Government order of sixty-five carloads of assorted vegetables to be shipped to the Western drought areas.
Needless to say, the marsh growers are happy that the Federal Government is taking off their hands a crop surplus that a few days ago looked like a total loss. Prices offered by the Government are substantially higher than those offered growers by truckers in recent weeks, in most cases 50 percent higher.
Shipping is to start the first of next week. Each carload will be composed of eighteen tons of carrots, parsnips, beets, turnips and cabbages. A Federal inspector will be on hand at Bradford to check the shipping for the Government with J. L. Ferguson representing the growers. The vegetables will be shipped in refrigerated cars.
