On to Lake Simcoe and Barrie
The Metropolitan Railway will extend its line northward.
The Metropolitan Railway Co. proposes to extend its system in the counties north of Toronto. At present the line comes to the a dead end in the centre of the town of Newmarket, which is some 40 miles north of Toronto. The proposition that the company is now considering is an extension to the village of Sutton and the adjacent summer village of Jackson's Point, which is on the shore of Lake Simcoe. To this end a surveying party has been organized and a tentative line through the townships of Whitchurch, East Gwillimbury, and North Gwillimbury will be struck out. The extension will mean the doubling of the present mileage and probably more.
With Jackson's Point as a terminus, the inference is that the summer excursion business will be catered to. A branch line many also be extended to Roach's Point and other places on the eastern side of Cook's Bay, the southern extension of Lake Simcoe, which are at present without railway connection of any kind and it is understood that from these points the railway will be pushed to Barrie.
