C.P.R. to enter Orillia over C.N.R. right-of-way

Speaking at the municipal meeting last week, Mayor Johnston, of Orillia, intimated that the two railways would soon be coming into Orillia over one track. While his worship gave no details, it is understood that an arrangement has been arrived at whereby the C.P.R. will withdraw from Orillia in return for the C.N.R. handing over to them another centre, said to be Owen Sound. The C.P.R.'s business in Orillia has been a profitable one, yielding a nice surplus. But the C.N.R. lines were there long before them and enjoy the major part of the freight business as well as the whole of the local passenger trade. In the movement for overcoming duplication, Orillia, is therefore, one of the towns that falls to the Canadian National. It is presumed that steps will be taken to prevent Orillia's industries and commercial houses from suffering from the return to monopoly.
