Want railway rate reduced
Midlanders object to paying same fare over shorter route to Toronto.
The citizens of Midland, says The Free Press, were delighted at the completion of the branch line of the G.T.R. by way of Elmvale, thus shortening the route to Toronto, and giving them another train service. They are not at all satisfied, however, to be held up for the same rate over the short route to Toronto as that paid by way of Orillia. They are at a loss to explain why a long-suffering people should be imposed on in this way. In explanation of the charge it has been stated that the tickets for the new route have not been issued. On would have thought the ticket question would have been in readiness when the road was opened for passenger service. It is to be hoped, however, that a reduction in the rates will take effect in the near future, in order that Midlanders may derive some financial benefit from the short route.
