Train hits truck near Gormley, driver, 21, killed

Gormley, Jan. 22.—A 21-year old truck driver was instantly killed when his truck was struck by a CNR freight train at a level crossing 1 1/4 miles north of here today. The driver, John Holliday of Maria St., Toronto, was found 50 feet along the track from the crossing. The wreckage of the truck was carried a quarter of a mile further by the train. Parcels of meat from the truck, owned by R. J. Lucas Co., were scattered down the right of way. Holliday had been driving for the company for two years.

The crossing, which the train approached around a curve, has no wigwag. The accident is being investigated by provincial and CNR police.

The accident was the second level crash in the suburban area in less than 24 hours. Arthur Embury, 22, of Agincourt, was seriously injured when his car was sliced in half by a CPR passenger train near Markham Thursday evening. His condition was reported to be fair last night.
