Traffic at Palgrave crossing to be protected
The dangerous double C.N.R. and C.P.R. level crossing on the Schomberg-Orangeville provincial highway near Palgrave will be brought to the attention of the Dominion Board of Railway Commissioners, Gordon Graydon, M.P. for Peel, announced last Thursday.
Mr. Graydon made a thorough examination of the crossings and stated that adequate protection should be provided at once to ensure the safety of the ever-increasing volume of motor traffic. The tracks of both C.N.R. and C.P.R. lines intersect the highway not more than 100 feet, the latter being at least 10 feet higher than the C.N.R. roadbed at this point.
The steep grade approaching the crossing from the west prevents motorists getting a clear view of the right-o-way in either direction. At present there are no more than the usual railway crossing signs to warn oncoming motorists. Simcoe County council has been active in urging that safety steps be taken.—Orangeville Banner.
