Trent Canal bridge.—We are advised officially in connection with the Board of Railway Commissioners' order for the reconstruction of the superstructure of the bridge over the Trent canal, mile 44.05, Campbellford Subdivision, Belleville Division, Montréal District, that the existing bridge was built about 1887 by Central Bridge and Engineering Co., Peterborough, Ont. It consists of three 79 1/2 ft. deck plate girder spans, and one 130 ft. deck plate swing span, supported on masonry piers and abutments. It is to be replaced with new spans of similar type and dimensions, but designed to carry heavier loads. The present swing span is operated by hand, but the new one will be operated electrically. A contract for the steel work has been let to Canadian Bridge Co., for delivery at Hastings, Ont. The erection, on the existing piers and abutments, will be done by the railway's forces, and it is expected to have the work completed by the opening of navigation.
