First C.P.R. train pulled into Midland last Friday
At 4.45 last Friday afternoon the first C.P.R. train to enter Midland pulled into the local yard. Thought it consisted of only an engine, caboose, one boxcar and four flatcars, its arrival has been keenly anticipated for a long time, as it marks the completion of months of negotiations between the town and that company. Following an agreement between the C.N.R. and the C.P.R. the latter secured running rights over the Government-owned road from a point near the Wye River and the mile and a third of roadbed between the two systems having been completed yesterday, the first C.P.R. train was run into Midland today. The flatcars carried telegraph poles, wire and other equipment and these were unloaded a short distance east of the C.N.R. station. About a hundred men are still employed on construction work where the tow lines have been formed and building operations are expected to commence within the town limits within a week.
